Fall getaway to Catskill, NY 2021

- Travels

Now that the boys have a week off of school in October, we’re trying to take advantage of off season travel. Since we live in Houston, TX we don’t get a Fall and I’ve been dying to see a full on Gilmore Girls Fall. I started Googling “best Fall vacations with kids” and came across an article from AirBNB with their best Fall stays. After I stumbled across this house I knew I found our spot. It is a dreamy house beautifully decorated that had this fantastic all window reading nook at the top of the stairs. It’s also on a big plot of land with a lot of trees that gave the boys plenty of room to explore and run around. The outdoor space is gorgeous! This house truly made our entire vacation. Also, if you walked down to the end of the street there is a river and beautiful waterfalls. We didn’t have to plan much because hanging out here and enjoying the beautiful space was more than enough for an idillic Fall getaway. Although, we did have a few fun outings up our sleeve. Read on to see this amazing AirBNB and our cool adventures in Catskill, NY.

When I plan trips I do A LOT of research. Pinterest is the best resource for travel. I always find the best of an area using the travel blogs that post there. That is how I found Rail Explorers. It is an awesome experience where you use pedal rail vehicles and pedal through old railroad tracks which allows you to take in the beautiful outdoor scenery. You pedal through the beautiful Fall foliage and past a couple of rivers. If you want the real deal Fall experience, this is IT! If you’re anywhere near Catskill , NY, this is a MUST!!! The boys loved it and so did Jonathan and me. And for mamas of toddlers, they do have special harnesses for the tots. Jonah was 2 when we did this and he loved it.

In another Pinterest dive I found Kaaterskill Falls. It is a stunning waterfall. You can hike around the area and take in all the fall foliage. I will warn you the hike down to the bottom and back up is is quite tiring with a toddler on your hip (or an almost 6 year old) but it’s totally worth it. My 11 year old was able to hold his own just fine. There are several different areas to get a good glimpse. There is an observation deck we snapped some photos on, we ignored all the signs and climbed to the top and captured some of my favorite photos, then we hiked to the bottom of the waterfall. You can see in one photo the steps are quite steep. The views from the top are unbeatable!!

An honorable mention on our trip was the Circle W. It was the cutest little shop and cafe. We stopped there several times and picked up wine, seltzers, snacks and even ate the yummiest breakfast there. You definitely have to make this apart of your trip.I found a pumpkin chai seltzer there that I will be searching high and low for this Fall. It was DELICIOUS!

And what would a trip to Upstate NY be without visiting the little town of Woodstock? We loved just strolling around we stopped at a few places to eat and the best was Shindig. I had the best burger there and Jasper had some pretty great Mac n cheese and I remember I had a chai sangria that was the epitome of Fall. There were a ton of shops to support and some wild decorations out for Halloween.

All in all it was a great get away. We were there for 7 days. The boys loved it and it fed my Fall craving perfectly. Here is the link for our AirBNB in case you want to check it out and here is the link to the Rail Explorers page as well. Let me know if you plan your own trip!
